"...yah i kind of overlooked that...." You make me laugh so much Sir The Herbalizer......you are the ONE !!!!!
For newcomers note that in 2005 Anet made HUGE MISTAKES resseting prices.....and some players like The Herbalizer for instance & others made huge profits (within few minutes.... the time for Anet to react lol).... Anet was E V E N obliged in certain case to MAKE A SPECIAL UPDATE in order to amend the records of the players who had made huge profits
Unfortunately I was not IG at the right moment LOLOLOL
Um no please get your facts right
The trader reset in 2005 was not rolled back by Anet.
The trader reset in 2006 was rolled back by Anet.
I profitted from neither trader reset
Posting late at night can lead to all sorts of mistakes and things being overlooked. Especially when you accidently hit a key and the whole post you spent typing out for ages disappears thus causing you to hastily type out another less well thought out post. And watching Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back too does not help things.

whats so disastrous about giving people the chance to have a baby panda follow them around?
You do realize that a large share of the Kanaxais and a decent share of the Pandas were given to the top 2 teams in a Japan-exclusive GvG tournament, right? At least some of these items were earned; further, they were designed to be rare.
Both of those minipets would look a lot less attractive when popped out if there were tons of them out there; further, it would undermine everyone's confidence that they could invest a bunch of time in getting an uber-rare item and then not have ANet make that time investment utterly worthless.
In short, a good-sized chunk of the player base would leave.

is that link safe btw? i can defo. see someone dling whatever it is and saying on here how he got hacked which would be kinda funny.
edit: omfg 45,000 dl today alone.
LOL I realized that thats why I edited the post after i poasted lol.
The runes werent really bad till everyone and there brothers saw the forum post on here and IGN about it.
The astronomical rune prices were driven more by the way the trader code worked at the time (perma-inflation on everything that anyone EVER bought from the trader). Recall that even ectos got up over 30k before the reset.

mini kanaxai
8 "earned"
18 given away for virtually free
mini panda
16 "earned"
120 given away for virtually free
mini island guardian
24 "earned"
111 given away for virtually free
other then the mini kanaxai, a very small percentage were actually "earned".
not to mention that all of the purple asian minis were virtually given away for free.
"...The communist trader (everything was really really cheap but you couldn't actually BUY anything) wasn't a pretty incident...."
Strange...I cant remember that ? when did this happened?
For info:It took me months to be able to offer my main character a superior rune of vigor which cost for long 100K each I know I was just a noob, it was a hard time but I had so much fun cause it was NEW.
I'd call that a large share. I'm already aware of the precise numbers on all three.
So other people got these items from a promotion which we weren't invited to. We can all agree that this is unjust. Does it therefore make sense to screw over the people that earned those pets? That doesn't follow.

Because back then you could make 100k in a day or 2 so it was really cheap in a way.

After consulting the support archives: Thursday, August 11, 2005. Every item at the trader was reset to minimum price. So you ended up with huge lines of people trying to buy whatever stock automatically respawned every few minutes at well below market price.

You have a big EGO The Herbalizer and I am faraway to be jealous. I am joking with you only cause you have a huge EGO
But AGAIN when I read that : "...I prefer trading, its much more relaxed. You can sit in LA with a group of friends chatting and showing each other items. Chat to your guild and friends. Use ts or vent. Browse the net etc. For me it was a lot more interesting than farming and alot less stressful." I find it SAD...I know...Posting late at night can lead to all sorts of mistakes & misunderstandings LOL
Like I said in a previous post, most (I have no stats sorry) of the players are IN IT for the MONEY + FAME . Why not ? I have nothing against it.
CHAIN REACTION
The results are that THE PLAYERS who want to achieve a/m goals will make EVERYTHING to reach them = leechers + bots + chinese farming companies + Ig$seller = a kind of disgusting plague.
The GAME is losing its soul.......
And Sir The Herbalizer, please accept my apologies if I hurt you LOL

eh, so it wasn't just my imagination when i was being offered 3000ectos and 400 ambraces for my kanaxai today?
sounds funny. I will hold my pet, can't take no risk. not to mention, i love that pet ^_^. Lucky to have bought it when it was introduced.
By the way, a question Herbalizer. How much gold does a Power trader has? i mean in range?
I have been trading on private level with private customers for a while, and i wonder if i am even close to be called one. Just curious .

i wouldnt call it a "time investment" as people who bought these minis when they first started popping up on the forums purchased them for collecting purposes and not as some type of investment opportunity. the fact that they increased in price exponentially over time was just good fortune.
as with most rare items, they always depreciate over time. people that buy rare itmes to keep usually understand this concept but still choose to purchase them.

anet will screw over people that have the limited minis if people that have them are keeping them for investment purposes, its only a matter of time really.

You misunderstand. Unless a player EBays, having sufficient wealth with which to buy a high-end minipet has to come from the investment of time in one form or another. Be it farming, power trading, getting lucky drops from the HoH chest or what have you. I'm not referring to buying and holding these items as though they were shares of stock in companies.
There's no natural progression of decay that's built into item prices in the game. The general pattern of prices that you refer to is a result of the fact that a large, creative player base will generally find ways to oversupply the market such that prices fall. But there's nothing that dictates that this will happen for items whose drop rate is capped at a very low level (Crystalline, Stygian, Runic, etc.) or whose drop rate is zero (rare minipets).

the only hoh drop that hasnt depreciated is the mini ghostly hero. the ghostly hero mini actually sells for twice as much more then what they were selling for when they first popped up on these forums.
maybe its the inscription system or anets drop rates that have contributed to their depreciation but crystallines, stygians, and runic blades have all decreased in price since their addition to the hoh chest.
"...What is your deal?.." said Arcanemacabre The N°3.....
I have no deal I dont make bizeness Dude...sorry LOL I play & the bize I make it in RL.
Think about the OP and his post.......congrats & he is not a noob...he is aware of the prices....but he is like scared DO YOU UNDERSTAND ?......whats goin on?
What does he want? =========> answers
You give yours and I give mine.
I have nothing against anyone in GW. I play - YES I PLAY & I dont make business - and I observe the evolution of the game and I give my answer to the OP question.
Please accept my apologies if you have been hurt by what I said.
But dont try to fool the people thanks.

Crystallines generally have declined quite a bit. The price on both Runics and Stygians has been increasing of late rather than decreasing.
Earliest drop of a q9 I know about went to Dark Sentry; it was resold at 100k + 150. Last q9 Stygian that was posted on high end was bid over 100k + 300 before the seller got banned (for some reason this always seems to happen with such items). Given that ectos were 9k in February and are 4.8k-5k now, this represents an increase.
Similarly, a req 10 Runic that would have gone for 100k + 80-100 back in May would cost you close to double that today.
